COL. BECK'S MISSION
SPECULATION ABOUT OBJECT
LONDON, October 21.
In regard to the recent visit to Rumania of the Polish Foreign Minister > Colonel Beck, responsible quarters in Budapest attach importance to a Government statement to the Press that "Colonel Beck's talks ,with King Carol last Wednesday raised a problem that cannpt be settled immediately and one which demands a thorough examination." • • . The Bucharest correspondent ol "The Times" believes that Colonel Beck's, mission was to ascertain Rumania's views regarding Ruthema, and that he was told that Rumania strongly favoured Ruthenia remaining part of Czechoslovakia. This view was dictated by opposition to further Czech sacrifices and objection, to the severance of Rumanian communications with Czechoslovakia. A Belgrade message reports that Yugoslavia is hostile to Rutheman partition except under self-determina-tion. ■
