TYPHOON IN JAPAN
KYUSHU DEVASTATED
HUNDREDS OF CASUALTIES

A typhoon yesterday devastated Kyushu island, killing 226 and injuring 592, while 227 are missing. Thirtyfive thousand have been rendered homeless and 3000 houses were washed away. The liner Yamabuki Maru was blown against the Yokohama breakwater. • A rescue ship has been rushed to th« scene. • The typhoon swept on to Yokohama, where seven passenger liners arc overdue, thence to Tokio in the early morning, flooding 25,000 houses and causing many to collapse.
The British freighter Hatterlock broke its mooring, chains and is strand* cd. Twenty-three fishing boats ar« missing.
