AMATEUR FENCING

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The sabre competition at the New Zealand Amateur Fencing Association's first Dominion tournament was won this morning by G. S. Harcourt, of the Wellington Swords Club. Other placings were:—J. Rose (Jenkins Swords Academy), 2; N. F. Turner (Auckland Swords Club), 3; & S. Evatt (Wigram Fencing Club), 4; W. S. Elsom (Christchurch Swords Club) 5.
In the women's provincial teams' competition, Nelson (Misses M. Houlker, L. Logan, R. Mabin, and Mrs. E. Copp) beat Canterbury B (Misses M. Crespin, J. Stevens, B. Frye, and N. Hitchcock), 14-2.
At a meeting of the Hutt County Council yesterday afternoon it was decided that Clarke's Reserve, Paekakariki, should be made a sanctuary under the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22.
