ORDERED FROM COURT
WOMAN WITNESS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
HAMILTON, October 18;
An admonitory ruling that a woman witness was committing perjury, was given by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, this afternoon after a heated examination which culminated in the witness being ordered from the Court.
The witness was giving evidence in litigation concerning a claim for £50 damages made by Charles Sutherland St. Clany labourer, Frankton, against Henry Ernest Goldfinch, jockey, Auckland, arising from a motor collision in Frankton on March 24. The defence admitted that the driver of the car which collided with the plaintiff had been negligent, but submitted that Goldfinch was not the driver.
An identification parade was held in the Court and two of the three witnesses for the plaintiff selected Goldfinch as the driver of the car. Following that the defence decided to restrict, the matter to one of the amount of damages only.
A sum of £23 6s damages was awarded against Goldfinch.
