SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, October 18,

Canterbury has been granted the South Island championship meeting; this season by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. The tournament will be held at Easter, probably on hard courts. \ The New Zealand Association advised the Canterbury Association at a management committee meeting tonight that the Canterbury proposal that selectors should be appointed to choose New Zealand teams, an office that is performed usually by the management committee of the New Zealand Association, would be discussed at a meeting of tiie council of the association. It was ' decided to give notice of 'motion that three selectors be appointed. It was decided that ranking list matches this year should not be recognised unless played under the control of an umpire. The preparation of a ranking list was left to selectors. Mr. V. Clark, a meter-reader, 77 Tauhinu Road, suffered a fractured left leg when a motor-cycle and car collided at the corner of Aberdeen Quay and Miramar Avenue at 3 p.m. yesterday. The Free Ambulance took him to hospital.
