ATHLETIC TRAINING

COACHING FOR BOYS

Although the American coach, Mr. A. L. Fitch, is in Christchurch this week, athletic training is being continued at the Pirie Street Reserve. The club coaches are instructing their respective club members.

Athletes who have taken advantage of the early training are already showing improvement, and there are new athletes who, as the result of the slow work done by them, have been able to correct faults.

The New Zealand sprint champion, G. Quinn, who has expressed a desire to run quarter-miles this season, realises the time it will take to get himself into shape to run to advantage over this longer distance, and already has done some useful slow work.

The Saturday morning coaching 'school for boys was attended by fifty boys last Saturday. It is hoped to provide a discus and a shot, each of suitable size and weight, at next Saturday morning's outing. Mr. B. A. Mabin, director of the Boys' Institute, has interested himself in the coaching school and is mainly responsible for the quick success of this venture.
