HERE AND THERE
Enjoyable Card Evening,
Every available table was occupied at the weekly card party of the Kilbirnie auxiliary branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, held at the clubrooms, Bay Road, last night. • The many guests thoroughly enjoyed the games, and at the close of play the results were announced as follows: — Bridge, Mrs. J. Gray and Mr. D. Nelson; "500," Mrs. Strange and Mr. Turney; competitions, Mrs. A. Wood and Mr. McCaul. The ladies' committee served supper.
Gift Evening. A gift evening was recently given at the home of Mrs. Johnston, of Murphy Street, in honour of Miss Elsie Reid, whose marriage to Mr. Allan Bain will take place on Saturday at St. Andrew's Church, The Terrace. The bride-to-be received some very useful gifts.
Trentham Women. A recent meeting of the Trentham Women's Institute was well attended. The president, Mrs. Kitchen, was in the chair. A very interesting and instructive demonstration was given byMrs. Heathcote on the making of stools, mats, and handbags. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: —Best jar of bulbs, Mrs. Mabey, first and second; queen cakes, Mrs. Stewart first, Mrs. Mabey second. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the. hostesses.
