APPLICATION REFUSED

"The session starts on Monday. There v/ill be no long delay before trial. For that and other reasons, which I think it would be unwise "to particularise, bail will be refused," said Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court today when Mr. C. H. Arndt applied for bail oh behalf of Marjorie Grace Pickering, aged 42, a married woman, who on Wednesday in the Magistrate's Court was committed by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., to the Supreme Court for trial on two charges of unlawfully using an instrument with intent to procure a: miscarriage. She pleaded not guilty.

Mr. Anidt made submissions to the Supreme Court today as to why bail should be allowed. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. W. H. Cunningham) was not called upon.
