LADIES' GOLF
INTER-ISLAND MATCH
SOUTH WIN HANDSOMELY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.
The weather and course were ideal today for the opening of the Ladies' National Golf Championship Tournament at the Ngamotu links. The holder of the title, Mrs. G. W. Hollis, is the only absentee among New Zealand's leading players and the tournament promises to be the most successful yet.
The main event today was the interIsland teams match. From the outset a high standard of play was revealed and for the fourth successive year the South Island proved too good for the North and took the honours by five games to two, one being square. Many of the games were very even. The results (South Island names first) were: —
Miss Fleming beat Miss Helean, 1 up. Miss Horwell beat Mrs. FullertonSmith, 3 and 2. Miss Smith beat Mrs. Crombie, 1 up. Miss Betts beat Mrs. Cook, 6 and 4. Miss Buchanan beat Miss Duncan, 5 and 4. Mrs. Rice and Mrs. D. Wilson, all square. Mrs. White-Parsons lost to Miss Collins, 3 and 1. Mrs. Topliss lost to Mrs. Glanville, 3 and 2.
