TROOP OPERATIONS
SITUATION INCREASINGLY
GRAVE
(Received October 13, 1.20 p.m.) JERUSALEM, October 12. After another day of killings, bombings, and sabotaging, the situation throughout Palestine is increasingly grave, and large-scale troop operations are being planned to quell outrages. Today's . tension centred at Bethlehem, where British troops are drawn up behind sandbag barricades at every strategic point.
The Government announced that it is prepared to issue identity cards to all applicants over sixteen years of age in order to protect the inhabitants in their relations with the civil and military authorities. It is also designed to counteract the tactics of the rebels in ordering Arabs to wear Bedouin headgear, which has prevented the distinction of peaceful people from rebels.
