THREE YEARS' FIGURES
Taxpaying individuals and companies increased in number by 30,686 in 1937-1938, compared with the previous tax year; their returnable income increased by £23,568,914 over the same period and they paid £2,675,925 more in taxation. These numbered 5775 in 1937-38, and they paid £841,884 on a total income of £8,524,079. Twenty-five companies earning £100,000 or over had a total income of £5,971,288, on which they paid £1,851,344 in taxation. The most numerous group among the taxable individuals and companies were the £200 to £300 class, who numbered 34,566 and paid £122,145 on a total re turnable income of £24,409,154.
