KIWI ATHLETIC CLUB
There was a good attendance at the Kiwi Amateur Athletic Club's annual meeting last night.
Presenting the report, the chairman, Mr. F. Bond, said that the past year had been very. satisfactory and the keenness shown indicated a revivalof interest in athletics. The club had gained several trophies, including the O'Leary trophy, the Heenan Boomerang, and the Kitto Shield. Provincial championships were won by C. Robinson (senior 220 and 440 yards), J. Prendergast (senior hop, step, and jump), and A. Cochrane (junior 440 yards).
The club's social activities were most successful.
Mention was made by Mr. Bond of the valuable coaching done by Mr. A. L. Fitch, although the full benefits of his expert methods would not be appreciated until a season or two had passed. Tentative arrangements, were being made to invite three Australian athletes who had performed well at the recent Empire Games to Wellington, probably early next year. They were Miss Decima Norman and Messrs. J. P. Metcalfe and N. Mumford.
Club trophies were won as follows: Everiss Shield, D. Hicks; Taylor Memorial, A. Cochrane; Hugo Vases, C. Robinson; Reynolds Cup, F. Norton; Hugo Rosebowl, Miss Tyrall; J. Prendergast won the Mayer Cup outright. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the following officers elected for the coming season:—Patron, Sir Alexander Roberts; President, Mr. J. H. Fowler; chairman of committees, Mr. F. Bond; honorary secretary, Mr. D. A. Jphnston; honorary treasurer, Mr. G. W. Jackman; vice-presidents, Messrs. Hugo, Reid, O'Leary, Ingram, O'Connell, Mayer, Thorley, Cleary, Brewer, Cochrane, Banner, Ewing, Robinson, Furlong, Reynolds, Welch, and Mrs. T. W. Leslie. •
