NEW APPOINTMENT
MR. ROY G. NELSON
A new appointment to the staff of Amalgamated Theatres in Wellington is that of I Jr. Roy G. Nelson-, Who is to become . manager of the -Plaza Theatre, which Mr. J. Dunn is leaving for?the .King's, and is to act in an advisory capacity in matters of publicity. Mr. Nelson has been 13 months in this country, having been sent over here by Universal Pictures in Australia to become publicity manager of the New Zealand organisation of that firm. His first task here was directing the campaign for "The Road Back," from Remarque's famous book. He had been to New Zealand previously, however, for some years ago he visited here for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, campaigning for that great success, "Trader Horn." With Fox Films, in Australia, he handled the film "Cavalcade;" His post with Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., is not the first time he. has been on the exhibiting side, for he was director"of stage presentations for Hoyt's Regent Theatre, Melbourne, he was publicity director for the Capitol Theatre, Melbourne, and also was with Union Theatres at the Capitol, Sydney. Mr. Nelson is the son of Leonard Nelson, for 30 years a star with J. C. Williamson and Fullers,-and a star well remembered in this country, for he wrote two great hits of years ago, "Goodbye Melbourne Town" and "Mr. Booze." It was thus natural that his own ambitions should turn to the stage and he made his debut in Melbourne with the late Gus Bluett, and for a number of years worked for Williamsons and Fullers in comedy parts. In war days he was with the company oj! Mr. Hugh D. Macintosh at the Tivoli Theatre, Melbourne, appearing in such productions as "Lads of the Village," "The Better 'Ole," ,- and "Tails Up." Robert Greig, the producer of those shows, is now a well-known supporting player, for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, for whom..Mr..Nelson also worked. In New Zealand his most successful feat was the organisation of the New Zealand Deanna Durbin quest.
