The forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing 24 hours, is for south-westerly to southerly winds, strong at first in some exposed parts but decreasing, otherwise light to moderate, turning to north-westerlies tomorrow about and south of Cook Strait.. A few isolated showers are probable, but the weather for the most part will be fine, light showers again developing in the far south-west and south. Temperatures Will be cool with some frosts, but will be milder tomorrow. '
Pressure is still low to the east, but has risen over New Zealand with the advance of an! anticyclone from the Tasman Sea. South-westerly to southerly winds have prevailed and rose to gale force in some exposed positions yesterday. They were still strong this morning along part of the east coast, but elsewhere were mainly light to moderate in force. There have been scattered showers in most districts, more especially in western areas. The maximum fall was reported from Westport, 0.22 in. The weather has been mainly fair to cloudy, but the cold southerly winds have been in marked contrast to the warm temperatures which have been experienced lately.
The weather at Auckland yesterday was fair to cloudy but with occasional light showers. There was a fresh .southwesterly wind which, has moderated this morning, but otherwise similar conditions prevail. The maximum temperature was 61.2deg, and the minimum last night 60.1deg. The rainfall was .OOlin. .
Conditions at Wellington were bright and sunny with little cloud until the evening. The wind was light and rather variable with north-westerlies predominating until about 7 pjn., when it turned to the south. A moderate southerly was still blowing this morning, and the weather was fine with passing cloud. Temperatures were colder. The maximum temperature was 59.1deg, and the minimum 44.8deg. There was no rain.
The morning in Christchurch was fine and sunny with moderate westerly to south-westerly winds. In the afternoon it turned more to the south and the sky became overcast. A light drizzle fell at 6 pjja. It was still overcast this morning with a light southwesterly wind. The maximum temperature was 51.6deg, and the minimum last night 42.5deg. The rainfall was .003 in.
.Yesterday Dunedin experienced a strong and gusty south-westerly wind with showers in the morning. The wind moderated to a light southwesterly today, and the weather is fine. Temperatures h_ave been cold.
