REGULATED IMPORTS
FARMERS' UNION PROPOSAL

LONDON, October 11
The regulation of food imports pending the operation of the commodity councils which were agreed upon at the Empire Producers' Conference in Sydney is proposed by the National Farmers' Union. For the restoration of the agriculture industry the union declares that quantitative regulation of imports and price insurance wherever price levels are unduly low are the only alternatives to the levy and subsidy policy. Failing the adoption of this scheme, the union is bound to press for a revision of treaties to enable agriculture to exercise its rights under the Import Duties Act.
