ESCAPE FROM WAR
CZECHOSLOVAKIA'S TRIAL
NATIONAL GIFT SUGGESTED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 11. The view that the people of New Zealand, having escaped the loss and tragedy of a world war, should share in the sufferings of the Czechoslovak people was vigorously expressed by the Rev. J. D. Smith,/ Mount Eden, at a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery. On his motion, a resolution was unanimously adopted requesting the Government to make a fitting contribution on behalf of the people of New Zealand. Mr. Smith said he felt that the only adequate contribution could be made by the people of New Zealand as a whole, through the Government. "We would have been' called upon to spend millions in war, and surely we could contribute a few hundred thousands with good grace." However, if the! Government would not act, they must 1 accept the second best, and get the J Assembly to take the matter up.
