RUGBY LEAGUE
CHAIRMAN HONOURED
A meeting of the Board of Control of the Wellington Rugby League was held last night.
Lengthy discussion took place on the) formation of a junior advisory committee to assist in the control of lower- j grade football next season, but no decision was arrived at pending the arrival of information regarding the functioning of such a body from Auckland. The board's chairman, Mr. W. T. Holland, applied for and was granted leave of absence during his visit to Australia. Mr. F. Wisnesky will occupy the chair while Mr. Holland is away. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Holland was the guest of members of the board at a small function in his honour. Mr. Holland is leaving on Friday for Australia, where he will be residing for some months.
Mr. de Lisle, secretary of the board, in proposing a toast to Mr. Holland, wished him success and good health in Australia and stressed the great inspiration Mr. Holland had been to all members of the board during his term as chairman.
Mr. Holland, in replying, referred to the difficult period gone through during his five years' association with the game in Wellington. He said, however, that at the conclusion of the best season the game has ever known locally, his aim to have a loyal and undivided board had at last been achieved.
Messrs. Wisnesky and Bassant also spoke, assuring Mr. Holland that on his return from Australia he would find the good work being carried on as keenly as before.
