THE PRESS AND LABOUR

"Is the Press of New Zealand fulfilling its duty towards the whole of the people of New Zealand?" was a question asked of Mr. W. Appleton, the National candidate for Wellington Central, at Webb Street last night. "The Press of New Zealand for the first twelve months that the Labour Government was in office were out to give them the fairest spin in the world," replied Mr. Appleton. "No Government has had a better run from the Press than the Labour Government in New Zealand. Today they are getting equal space to that of the National Party. If ever there was a Press anywhere that has been fair to Labour, it is the New Zealand Press. It has been a jolly sight fairer than Mr. Savage over broadcasting."
