DISPUTE SETTLED

LOCAL BODY OFFICERS

WELLINGTON DISTRICT

The Wellington district local body officers' dispute concluded yesterday before a council of conciliaton after occupying a total of four days. Complete agreement was reached, salary scales and holidays being decided yesterday afternoon.

A two weeks' annual holiday was agreed upon together with the following holidays which, are. not. to form part of the annual holiday:—New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, the Sovereign's Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Anniversary Day, or another day in lieu thereof.

The following general schedule of salaries was agreed upon for male clerical workers: —First six months, £65; second six months, £78; third, £91; fourth, £104; fifth, £117; sixth, £130; fourth year, £160; fifth year, £200; sixth year, £225; seventh year, £250; eighth year, £270; ninth year, £280; tenth year, £290.

The general schedule of salaries fof females was fixed as follows:—First six months, £52; second six months, £60: third six months, £70; fourth six months, £80; fifth six months, £90; sixth six months, £104; fourth year, £117; fifth year, £130; sixth year, £143; seventh year, £156; eighth year. £169.

It was agreed that all local bodies should review their salary scales at a time which would bring any revisions into effect on April 1 of each year.

The salary scales were on the lines of the employers' counter-proposals but represented an increase for male workers in the eighth, ninth, and tenth years, and for female workers in the seventh and eighth years. Salaries to be paid to certain classified workers were agreed upon in individual cases.
