AUSTRALIAN WOOL EXPORTS.
The Australian Commonwealth Statistician, Dr. Roland Wilson, has announced that during July and August total exports of greasy wool from Australia were 185,121 bales, valued at £2,867,543, compared with 148,378 bales, valued at £3.263,637 in the corresponding two months of last year.
Exports to the Empire in the opening two months of this year amounted to 44,845 bales, valued at £674,901, compared with 51,940 bales, valued at £1,099,385 in the corresponding period of last year. Exports to the remainder of the world increased from 96,438 bales to 140,226 bales in the same period, but the value of the trade increased only from £2,164,253 to £2,192,642.
Japan has regained her old position as Australia's best foreign wool customer. Her purchases increased fEom 12,375 bales' m July and August last year to 42,520 bales in the corresponding period of this year. France's purchases for the two months increased from 16,646 bales to 35,375 bales, while Belgium's purchases for the two months increased from 21,871 bales to 30,642 bales. On a proportionate basis the rise in purchases by Czechoslovakia has been the. largest recorded for the period. They increased nearly eightfold—from 549 bales to 4150 bales. Germany, on the other hand, took 22415 bales in July and August last year, and only 12,907 bales in the last two months. Total exports" were 45,185 bales, valued at £809,728, compared with 53,985 bales, valued at £1,451,036 in the corresponding period of last year.
