THE DRUNKEN DRIVER
MR. SEMPLE'S THREAT
COMMUNISM ATTACKED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) .j DUNEDIN, This Day.
Addressing a big meeting at Balclutha last night, the Hon. R. Semple reviewed the transport problem and the progress made. He stated that if drunken driver penalties did not stop offences he would introduce the American system of putting them in gaol every Sunday.
An interjector: It will have to be Saturday and Sunday with the 40-hour week. ■ •
Mr. Semple: Yes, they can go in for two days weekly until their six months is cut out.
"Because of things we have done," Mr. Semple concluded, "we are called Socialists. We are even called Communists, but let me tell you that no one has ever fought Communists harder in New Zealand than Bob Semple. I won't stand for the Communist gospel. It is a gospel of despair and hate. I detest it. I can assure you that Communists will never get into the Labour movement."
Mr. Semple was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
