WAGE "CUTS"
(To the Editor,)
S«%-—lt may be as well to remind all mothers, that every mother who votes for the Socialist (alias Labour) candidate ori October 15 will be voting to make a "cut" in her children's wages until they reach the age of 21 years. And the children have no voice in the matter. They will have taxation without representation, which is un-English. With the present high cost of living, there must be many families where the children's wages have to be vised m aid of the household expenses of lodging, food, and clothing. Should the Socialists win, there will be less money for these items. In fact, the parents
will be taxed twice over, first for i their own proper selves, and then through their children. . , If we look at the official (further) j Expectation of Life Tables in j Whitaker's Almanac, on which all life insurance premiums are based, we find the following (further) expectations of life:— Age. Males. Females. 15 ~ .... 50 53 • 16 49 52 17 ~'.,. 48 51 18 47£ 50J 19 46& 49k 20 45* m Consequently, very few males of the above ages can expect to do more than just reach the 65, and then die after, having paid taxes for a pension between 40 and 50 years, and not receive back anything like what they have paid in in taxes. With females, the position is slightly better. More of them will exceed the pension age. But hardly any of them will receive back more than a small portion of what they have paid in. All of us, grown-ups as well as children, can do much better for our old age by life insurance and friendly societies, than under, the Social Security Act.—l am, etc.,
