A Weekly Pleasure. The Kilbirnie auxiliary branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association held their weekly card party at the club room's, Bay' Road, last night. This weekly fixture of the branch is proving as popular as ever, and the guests spent a very enjoyable evening. Supper was served by the ladies' committee. Mrs. A. Synnott and Mr. D. Nelson were the bridge winners, and Mesdames M. Woods and A. Scott won at ''500." Competitions were won by Mrs. S. Porteous and Mr. A. Sharman. An Interesting' Visit. Miss Winifred Tricker, a member of the staff of the Wellington Education Board, is having an interesting holiday visit to the > Mother Country, states "The Post's" London correspondent. While in Scotland she visited Edinburgh and the Glasgow Exhibition, and Moffat. This latter town was the centre for motoring in the Border country. On her way back to London, Miss Tricker made a break at Stratford-on-Avon, and saw a performance of "Midsummer Night's j Dream" at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. At the end of July she paid a visit to Paris, and then went on to Interlaken. Miss Tricker has booked her return passage by the Orford leaving on November 5, but before then she hopes to see a good deal of the West Country. Peace Thanksgiving. The International" Church Council of Women will hold a service of thanksgiving for peace in St. John's Church, Dixon Street, on Friday next at 2 p.m.,- to which all women are cordially invited. Wadestown Card Party. A very successful "500" evening was held at the home of Mrs. T. Brown, Cecil Road, Wadestown, on Saturday, in aid of the local Labour Party branch funds. Prizes were won by Mrs. Broadhead and Mr. J. Riseborough, There was also a "travelling prize.'« The funds benefited considerably. Plunket Jumble Sale. Bargain-hunters may look for some specially good things which will be offered at a sale in aid of the funds of the Kelburn branch of the Plunket Society, which will be held at St. Thomas' Hall, Newtown, on Friday, at j 6.30 p.m. Some excellent goods have been contributed, and it is anticipated I that the sale will be a great success. Party for Parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Mac Nee were guests of honour at a very enjoyable party which was given for them at their home in Lyall Bay by their eldest daughter, lona, assisted by 1 friends. Musical items, and a recitation by Mrs. McNabb were much enjoyed. Mrs. MacNee's frock was of heavy green satin and worn with a gold lace bolero. An enjoyable supper was served. Pleasant Institute Social. Mrs. Denoven (president) welcomed members, friends, and visitors from other institutes at a social evening held by the Wallaceville Women's Institute. Pianoforte duets were played by Misses Gorrie and Keys, a tapdancing display was provided by Mrs. McGrath's pupils, and solos were sung by Messrs. D. Clyde and H. Chapman. An instrumental quartet was conducted by Mr. R. Moore, and the institute choir rendered two "glees." A very pleasant time was spent in games, competitions, and dancing. Supper was served by the j committee. A happy and successful i evening closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Hataitai Red Cross. A well-attended meeting of the Hataitai sub-centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society was held at the Methodist Schoolroom, Hataitai,, recently. Captain M. S. Galloway gave a very informative talk on the functions of the Red Cross Society. It was resolved that first aid and home nursing classes be commenced immediately.
