Wigglesworth and Co., fibre brokers, London, September 1, reported thnt August was "one of the quietest trading periods of the year" in Manila fibre. East African sisal was also on a quiet market and Java and Sumatra sisal were similarly on a quiet market. Referring to New Zealand hemp and tow the firm reported, that stocks "are dwindling and consequently few offers are being made. .It is reported that the Government subsidy will be continued until the" end of the year, but even so it is doubtful if some mills will reopen unless there should be a recovery in prices. Quotations are nominally: Good fair. £20 per ton; hieh point fair, £19; fair, £17; common, £16; rejected, £15 10s; No. 3 tow £12 ss; c.i.f. London basis, Sep-tember-October shipment." :
