ewes with good lambs, 10s to 12s 6d; hoggets sold at 10s to 13s 8d for reasonable sorts. A line of well-woolled two-tooth ewes made 25s 3d. The spring lamb entry was considerably reduced, resulting in an improvement of about 2s, with an average price for best lambs 14d to 14£ d. Fat sheep entry was about 4500; quality was better than usual. In the earlier stages, wethers were better by 2s to 2s 6d; ewes up to ls; but light wethers of little better than store condition made no improvement. Near tfte end of the sale ewes firmed further, and were j ls 6d better than at the start. Extra' prime wethers made 36s 10d; prime heavy, 29s 6d to 325; prime medium,, 25s 6d to 295; light, 20s 6d; extra prime ewes, 27s 4d; prime heavy, 22s to 24s 6d; prime medium, 17s 6d to 21s; light, 14s. The entry of 300 cattle was one of the smallest for a long time, and following on the penning, which was not a great deal larger than a week ago, butchers faced a distinct shortage and priced soared to levels which have not been exceeded for several years. The average improvement was about 355, but in some instances, light beef prices advanced to nearly 40s; good beef, 45s to 475; tops, to 50s; heavyweight, 40s to 44s 1001b. Other prices were:—Extra prime steers, to £24 17s 6d; prime heavy, £18 to £20 10s; prime medium, £16 15s to £18 ss; light, to £12-15s; extra prime heifers, £19 17s 6d; prime, £13 5s to £14 15s; medium, £11 5s to £13; light, £7 to £10 15s; extra prime cows, £18 2s 6d; prime, £12 to £14 10s; medium. £9 to £11; light, £8 15s. The fat pig entry was of similar size to last week, but with a big proportion of large and unfinished sorts. The sale was an excellent one for all classes, which sold at late rates, except that over the last race an advance of 2s to 3s was realised. Choppers came forward in fairly good supply, and an excellent sale resulted. The baconer market recovered from the easing of last week, particularly for heavy weiehts, and closed at 5s to 6s dearer. Choppers made 58s 6d to £6 13s 6d; porkers, 42s 6d to £3 9s 6d: the average price a lb was 7£d to 8d; baconers, £3 10s 6d; average price a lb, 7Jd to 7fd. i
