"THE STUDENT PRINCE."
The well-remembered melodies of Sigmund Romberg in the romantic and amusing "Student Prince" contribute much towards the success of the production, which is now being played at the Grand Opera House by the Wellington Operatic and Theatrical Society. The familiar story of the lonely heir to the throne of Karlsberg who goes to the University of Heidelberg to be educated, and there, for the first time in his life, finds happiness and companionship and gains the love of a little servant girl, is well portrayed in all its wistful appeal. Gay choruses of smart student bands, bevies of Heidelberg maidens, fascinating schuplattler dancers, and colourful court scenes all combine in making an appealing and fascinating background to the main story. Scenery and costuming leave little to be desired, and whether it is the courtyard of the little inn of the Three Golden Apples, the palace of Karlsberg, or an interior scene at the university that is being portrayed, an atmosphere of reality is prevalent. Prince Karl is played by Nome Denton, and Alma Clegg has the role of Kathie, the servant girl, who loves him. Ivan Smith, as Dr. Engel, the prince's tutor, carries off the vocal honours. ___________„—«,
