LAND SETTLEMENT "MESS"
t Dealing with land settlement at the opening of his campaign at Hawera, Mr. H. G. Dickie, National candidate for Patea, said that never in the history of the Dominion had a Minister made such a mess of land settlement as the Hon. F. Langstone had done, says the "Hawera Star." Not one estate had been cut up for close settlement, and Mr. Dickie pointed out that past Governments had cut up estates into 9000 farms over a period of years. Many of these were in Taranaki, in which province only three had been unsatisfactory.' "Mr. Langstone has not bought one property," he said, "and it looks rather hopeless when the Minister takes such a pessimistic view and sits back and does nothing more than criticise past Administrations. There are men on unemployed relief work who would be glad of the chance to own their own farms, while there are sharemilkers who are entitled to the same consideration."
