"DESERT SONG" ENDS.
A large audience at the New Opera House last night said farewell', to = the Williamson Royal Comic Opera Company that has been- playing "Balalaika" and "Desert Song." The revival of the lovely "Desert .Song" has been a'happy experience for ■. ■ ■ Wellington theatregoers, who have "been impressed with the fine performance of George Hancock, the noted, young English- ba^tone, in the dual roles of the' simpler Pierre and the dashing Red Shadow: ;He was warmly applauded < and encored for his splendid singing of the "One Alone" solo, in \njhich the remarkablyfine chorus of male voices- rendered good support Diana, Dupane as Margot, Violet Carlson, as Susan, Don Nicol as Benjamin Kidd, Gwen Brown -as Azuri, Yvonne Banvard as a, Spanish lady, Ggston Mervale, Clifford Cowley, and the others all came in for their share of appreciation, and the ladies were presented with floral tributes: at the conclusion of the" performance, ■which also marked the. end of. th« season.
