EASTBOURNE FERRIES
GOVERNMENT AID SOUGHT
The minutes of a special meeting held by the full council to consider the report submitted by the Town Clerk and general manager (Mr. C. L. Bishop) on the transport services, presented to the meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council last evening, stated that it had been decided to approach the Government with a view to seeking aid by way of subsidy on the ferry service.
In his usual report, Mr. Bishop stated that in the ferry department the revenue for August was approximately £75 iWer than the total for the corresponding month last year. The total for the\ five months to the end of August was also approximately £75 lower than for the corresponding period last year. Adverse weather and sickness had seriously affected the passenger traffic. The expenditure for the period had been slightly less than for the corresponding period of last year, and the net result of the trading had been approximately the same.
In the omnibus department the revenue for August showed a small increase over that for the corresponding month of last year, and the totalfor the five months showed an increase in keeping with the additional milage run and the increased running cost.
