COMPLIMENTARY PARTY
A complimentary evening party, which began with an excellent buffet dinner, was tendered last evening to Miss Amy Kane, president of the Pioneer Club, when about 130 members were present. /
Miss Kane was accompanied by her mother and sister, and they were received by Misses L. Hall, K. Williams, and L, van Staveren (all foundation members of the club). Miss Kane, who was wearing a black crepe silk evening gown with floral design in cyclamen and jade, had a necklace and earrings to. match. She was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers by the members of the garden circle of the club.
Miss Cooper and Mrs. dv Pont were responsible for very charming decorations of the rooms, there being artistically massed flowers with added charm from the shaded lights.
After "The King" a toast was proposed to Miss Kane by Miss L. Hall. Musical honours were accorded to Miss Kane, who, in returning thanks, said she appreciated very much the large gathering of friends, and spoke of her 29 years' connection with the activities of the club, which was in every respect a "pioneer" one, being the first for women . established in Wellington: Miss K. Williams proposed the health of the club, and gave a brief outline of its history.
Miss Spinks played acceptable music during "the evening, and was accom.panist to Miss Caroline Ward, who gave a demonstration of health exercises and Grecian dancing.
When the very pleasant evening came to an end all present joined heartily in the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
