A CHARMING PARTY
A charming afternoon party took place in Lower Hutt yesterday, when Mrs. A. Marshall entertained nearly sixty friends at her home in Bloomfield Crescent. It is seldom these days of mechanical and professional music that one has the' pleasure of listening to such, a delightful programme as was heard in the long drawing-room, where the subdued tonings threw into relief the exquisite bowls of japonica and violets and stands of wann-hued Iceland poppies. A number of wellselected and artistically rendered items included duets, solos, and elocutionary items by Mrs. A. Downer, Mrs. W. Burgess, Mrs. F. Gray, Mrs. J. C. Cotter, and Mrs. L. Fisher, the accompanist being Miss Finlay.
Mrs. Marshall was wearing a hostess gown of nigger-brown thumb-print crepe, the wide bishop sleeves and corsage being inset with panels of Dubonnet lace. Tea was served buffet fashion in the dining-room from a table of polished wood, which had as its artistic centrepiece a shallow bowl of mixed flowers. v
