DANCE AND CONCERT
The Houghton Valley Hall was filled to capacity recently when the local branches of the Ratepayers' Association and Labour Party held a successful dance and concert. In the absence of the Hon. R. Semple, the proceedings were opened by Mr. E. Bull. Among those who contributed to the excellent programme were Mr. Wm. McLeod (bagpipe selections), Mr. Bognuda (violin solos), Mrs. ; Gunn and Messrs. Nicol and Dibbly (songs), and Messrs. Isbister and Peek (humorous items). Mrs. Geo. Gunn was responsible for the outstanding performance of the children who took part in the "Empire Pageant," of which she was the writer and producer. "Britannia" was portrayed by Miss Margaret Brook. Not the "least appreciated items were those given by the Houghton Valley boys, under the tutelage of Mr. Hildreth. They contributed several clever sketches. A dainty supper was served by the executive. A vote of sympathy was passed with the Hon. R. Semple and Mrs. Semple lin the accident suffered by their son.
