PUROTO IMPROVING

GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day* After rain overnight the tracks were, heavy at Awapuni yesterday morning. Corroboree and Old Bill were together at the end of five furlongs in lmin 7&sec. Vascones scampered over two furlongs in 26sec, moving as if the going was to her liking. Silver River was not troubled in running seven furlongs in lmin 40sec. The Bigot and The Buzzer were companions over six furlongs in lmin 26 4-5 sec. Both horses went pleasingly. Dainty Sue came home the last three of six furlongs in 41 3-ssec, It was a nice gallop. Puroto and Vadanoe sprinted the last half-mile of five furlongs in 54& sec, and Puroto, in front, was going along very easily at the finish. It was one of Puroto's best track gallops for some time. Hanover, who seems to have made a complete recovery from his fall at Foxton, was exercised and then given a working gallop over six furlongs. Segra ran home the last three of six furlongs in 42 2-ssec, and she finished full of running. Titter and High Peer had Sporting Gift as a companion over half a mile in 55 4-ssec, Titter and High Peer* who galloped very well, being in front at the finish. The last of the earlier gallops #was that in which Lady Ina and Golden Ridge ran five furlongs in lmin Bsec, Golden Ridge being in front. The first horses to go.over the schooling hurdles were Entheos (Chaplin), Tail Light (N. C. Trillo), and Pango (W. J. McDowell), and they gave a good exhibition. Against the light Entheos was not too sure about one fence, but otherwise it was a faultless display of fast jumping. Pango was eased up over the last bit and the others fought out the finish together. Strolling (W. E. Pine) jumped on his own, giving a good display.
