OBITUARY
SIR PHILIP STREET
(Received September 12, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 11. The death has' occurred of Sir Philip Street, Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales. Sir Philip Street was born in 1863 and educated at Sydney Grammar School and at Sydney University, where he took his B.A. He was called to the New South Wales Bar in 1886 and in 1907 became a puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. In 1907 he became a Judge in Bankruptcy and in 1918 was appointed Chief Judge in Equity. In 1925-34 he was Chief Justice of New 'South Wales. He was a member of ithe Senate of Sydney University in j 1915-34 and Deputy Chancellor in 1926----|27. He was also chairman of the | Trustees of Sydney Grammar School 'in 1912-29, and since 1923 had been a ! trustee of the National Art Gallery of I New Soifth Wales. In 1934 he was its president. He was also American non-national member of the International Commission provided for by [treaty between the U.S.A. and Greece for the settlement of disputed questions in 1933. Since 1930 he had been Lieu-tenant-Governor of New South Wales. He received the K.C.M.G. in 1928 and is a Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
