DICKENS FELLOWSHIP
A meeting of the Dickens Fellowship was held recently in Charming Hall. Mr. E. C. Smythe, who presided, welcomed the large gathering of members and friends. The guest and entertainer for the evening was the Rev. Archibald E. Hunt, who held the earnest attention of the audience with a graphic and interesting summary of the early life and adventures of Charles Dickens. He aroused great enthusiasm with his-impersonations of well known Dickens characters. A well-acted scene from "A Tale of Two Cities" was presented by the dramatic branch. Mr. Rutherford created a good impression as "Dr. Manette," Miss M. Browne was / an artistic "Lucy," Mr. Hartill as "Mr. Lorry," and Mr. Page as "Defarge" gave an extremely good account of the chsrsctcrs The musical side of the programme was contributed to by little Annabelle Hancock, a small pianist of twelve years of age, who gave a rendering of "Paderewski's Minuet in G," and in response to encores, played some of her own compositions. Some vocal solos were delightfully sung at the piano by Miss Diracco, who was warmly encored. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all the performers who had contributed to an enjoyable evening. The singing of the brotherhood chorus and National Anthem concluded proceedings. The British Minister for Air has appealed for the record number of 31,000 recruits for the R.A.F. this year, including 2100 pilots and 550 observers.
