EXCITEMENT AT CAPE TOWN
CAPE TOWN, September 10. In the final Rugby Union Test match today Britain beat South Africa 21-16. At half-time South Africa was leading 13-3. Twenty-six thousand spectators saw the game, which was played in cloudy weather on a rain-soaked ground. The teams were:— South Africa.—F. Turner; D. Williams, P. de' Wet, J. Smith; J. Bester; T. Harris; D. Craven; M. Louw, J. Lotz, S. Louw, B. dv Toit, A. Sherriff, B. Bergh, W. Bastard, L. Strachan. Britain. —C. Grieve; E. Jones, A. McKibben, J. Giles, J. Boyle; G. Cromey; G. Morgan; C. Graves, W. Travers, G. Dancer, R. Alexander, S. Walker, R. Mayne, P. Duff, and J. Waters. Britain started well and maintained pressure for a quarter of an hour, securing unconverted try before the Springboks broke away. Turner scored and converted his own try. The forwards were swift and active and the play was fast and open. Turner converted a try by Bester. The forward battle was terrific and the British tackling magnificent. Lotz then scored, but Smith failed to convert. Dancer was the next over, and McKibben converted. He afterwards scored with a penalty kick, making the score 13-11 in favour of the Springboks. Alexander was the next to score, and Britain led 14-13. Excitement was intense when Turner kicked a penalty goal, giving South! Africa the lead at 16-14. Six minutes from the end Grieve dropped a goal from 40 yards out, making the score 18-16 in favour of Britain. Duff increased the visitors' score to 21 after securing the ball from a .line-out. South Africa won the first Test 26-12, and the second 19-3.
