SEDDON SHIELD
BULLER WINS FINAL CAME
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WESTPORT, September 10. Before a very large attendance and in beautiful weather with the ground in perfect order, Buller won their final match of the season for the Seddon Shield, beating West Coast 7-6. Buller's points were scored in the first spell, Stewart kicking a long penalty goal and Dunn, Buller's full-back, kicking beautiful■• field goal from right out at the sideline. In this spell Buller had the benefit of the sun at their backs. The game was fought very keenly with the Buller forwards slightly shading those of West Coast. In the 'second spell West Coast got the greater possession of the ball from the scrums and Davidson's smart and varied passes frequently set the backs away in attack. However, the defence of the Buller backs was sound and impenetrable. West Coast registered two penalty goals, both kicked by Davidson. The game was marked by very vigorous forward play, with at times some good passing rushes which sound tackling held up as scoring seemed imminent. This was the third occasion this season on which Buller and West Coast have met, West Coast winning the first home-and-home match and Buller the second, and also the shield match today. In all three matches West Coast failed to cross Buller's line. For Buller Stewart, Strachan, and Alexander (backs), and Mason, Wilson, Pratt, and Robertson (forwards), and for West Coast Mann, Roberts, Davidson, and Vaughan (backs), and Ron King, Hammond, Hudson, and Bowes (forwards) were prominent. Mr. A. E. G. Rogers (Christchurch) I was the referee.
