SATURDAY ACTIVITIES
(From "The Post's" Representative.) Well in the vanguard of the summer i season the Lower Hutt Tennis Club held its formal opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon, over sixty members being present, and also a number of visitors from- Wellington and Newtown Clubs. Introducing Mr. J. W. Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt and vicepresident of the club, the club captain, Mr. F. S. Ramson, paid special tribute to the ever-ready and unfailing support he had accorded all sporting bodies in the borough and this club in particular over the past few years. "It is customary, I know," said Mr. Ramson, "for clubs to practise a form of blackmail in electing a number of well-known men as their vice-presi-dents, but this year we have decided to appoint only one man genuinely interested in the club, and we have great pleasure in asking Mr. Andrews to be our vice-president." Mr. Andrews, who was accompanied by Mrs. Andrews, Mr. A. Marshall (Councillor for Sporting Bodies), and Mr. and Mrs. A. Jarman, expressed his appreciation and pleasure in his association with the club, and referred to the excellent work Mr. Marshall was doing as "liaison officer" between the sporting bodies and the Borough Council. He congratulated the club on its success and on the bright prospects ahead, and, after wishing the members a happy time and a pleasant playing season, opened play by serving the first ball.
