"REFRESHER" COURSE
MAORI CARVER
(Special to the "Evening Post.") WANGANUL This Day. Mi-. Paikea Henare Taka, a Maori carver engaged in the restoration work at Turuturu-Mokai pa (Hawera), visited Wanganui on his way to Ratana pa. He paid a "refresher" visit to the Wanganui Museum, where there are several examples of rare and old Taranaki carvings. Mr. Taka stated that the work at Turuturu-Mokai will embody, for the first time in New Zealand, the old Taranaki patterns, which are perhaps the most difficult to co^y of all the Maori patterns. The museum possesses several "waka huia" (feather boxes), one of which is a perfect example of the old work.
