MOTOR-CYCLE ON FIRE
RIDER'S LUCKY ESCAPE
Just after starting off in a northerly direction near the boatsheds on the Marine Drive at Evans Bay at about 11.30 p.m. on Saturday, a motor-cycle suddenly burst into flames. The rider had a lucky escape from injury, and tried to stifle the flames with his overcoat, but was unsuccessful. With the assistance of onlookers, the burning machine was dragged across the r\id, leaving a trail of blazing petrol behind it. When it was drop-, ped to the beach, perilously close to a boatshed, the petrol tank burst and flames mounted to a considerable height. The fire burnt itself out before the machine coulct toe draggad down to the water. Though promptly on the spot, the Fire Brigade arrived too late to be of any assistance.
