A brilliant career has been brought to an untimely end by the death of Keith Voitre, one of the finest horsemen ever developed in the Dominion, and his passing will be deeply felt by almost everyone in New Zealand and by all Australian racing people. Like Phar Lap, Keith Voitre had a name that was known not only in racing circles but in every corner and sphere in the Dominion, and even those who will have least to do witlr the sport of racing have always been interested in the ups and downs of this not always too fortunate horseman. Voitre was apprenticed to R. E. Hatch at Awapuni, and when he started riding he quickly became prominent and successful. It was about ten years ago that he had his first ride in a race,
