ABANDONED GAME
QUESTION OF REPLAY
'■;'■■ The question whether a match should "be replayed after it had been abanidoned through a ball having been lost and' another ball having burst was discussed^ -at, last night's meeting of the | Football Association. Letters were received from the Lower Jlutt and Swifts Clubs and a referee, Mr. A.. W. Aspen,, concerning a .game played between the clubs' second A ! .division 'teams last -Saturday. ' Mr. Aspen stated that shortly after the commencement of the game the" Swifts ball which was being used was lost, and play was continued with Lower' Hutt's ball, which, though intact, was not in good condition. After six minutes' play in the second spell the ball had burst, and he had allowed five minutes in which to secure another ball. As no fresh ball had been obtained in that time he had abandoned the game. His reason for continuing the game with the Lqwer Hutt ball had been that he had realised that the association had wanted finality in the gamec The Swifts Club stated that it claimed the win of the game because of its lead of 7-0 when it was declared abandoned, because the Lower Hutt Club were two short, and because the ball supplied by the Lower Hutt Club wag not fit to be used. The letter from the Lower Hutt Club gave information similar to that given by the referee, "I have frequently brought the matter of unsuitable balls before the notice of the association," said Mr. E. J. McQueen. "Balls, seem to be in good condition at the beginning of the season, but are faulty towards the end. Some action should be taken to rectify this position." Mr. C. Ballard said the usual rule applied when a match was abandoned was to have it replaced, and he considered that the game should be replayed. Mr. J. Kean said that the position was governed by a rule of the association which said that balls unsuitable for the playing of a game should not be passed by the -referee. The game was declared to have been won by Swifts. VISIT TO OTAGO CANCELLED. It was decided that no representative team should go to Otago to play for the F.A. Trophy, but that a visit to Auckland on September 24 or .October 1 to play for the Frank Campbell Rose Bowl should be arranged, providing that the team could be given hotelaccommodation. Mr. L. H. Arcus, manager of the Wellington Primary School representative team which visited Napier after the abandonment of the primary school tournament recently, reported that in the'first game the team had played it had been beaten 3-1. The day following, a match had been arranged with a team from the Napier High School for practice, and an opportunity to experiment *with the placing of the team, and the final game had been won 3-1. He would recommend that for future tourneys teams chosen should be given some practice together before they left. It was decided to grant a win to the Marist Club second A division team in its game with Technical Old Boys last Saturday. ; The game had been declared abandoned by a referee before its start. -..,••. v Mr- A. Power advised that as the inter-house league games had been postponed last Saturday, the friendly game between Bergers and Government Printing could not be played I;his Saturday. Bergers are now to play a championship match against Pallo at Kilbirnie. Permission was granted the Seatoun Club to play a past y. present members' match on September 24, provided a ground was available. AULD CUP COMPETITION.
