"BALALAIKA" GIVES
WELCOME
Wellington people, who turned out in their many hundreds "weather or no" last night to go1 to the. Opera House to witness the premiere of "Balalaika" which has been anticipated with so much interest and pleasure, found a welcome from the moment they stepped into the entrance from the cold and wet of the streets, for a decor of much interest and artistry had been prepared for them. High palms and many charming trailing pots of asparagus fern were used decoratively, with bright splashes of colour from designs in cellophane in many tones with sparkling additions which were most effective. On a dais was a charming girl in Russian peasant costume selling programmes. The stairs were well provided with attractive coloured designs.
Upstairs in the foyer the same plan of decor had been carried, out, with the addition of pots of cinerarias and other conservatory flowers. All the "lasses"... selling programmes or show-
