DREARY CRICKET

DRAW AT FOLKESTONE

LITTLE INTEREST SHOWN

FINGLETON GETS 51

(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received September 7, 11 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. The cricket match between the Australians and Sir Pelham Warner's XI at Folkestone came to an uninteresting end today. Rain caused an early stoppage and the result was a draw. Australia made 390 and 327 for seven wickets, declared, the England XI making 223 and 38 for none. The match was continued today. in cool and dull weather. There was only a handful of spectators. Barnett (6) and Waite reopened Australia's second innings from the overnight total of 204 for five wickets, and by the lunch interval 327 runs for seven wickets were on the board. At that stage the innings was declared closed. Barnett, who had an excellent match, pulled and drove well before offering two chances to Valentine in the gully off Todd, the second of which was accepted. Australia were 419 runs ahead, but McCabe neither declared nor did Waite or Fingleton score over-rapidly. Play thus went on drearily and pointlessly and the crowd welcomed Waite's dismissal after taking 95 minutes for 42 runs. Fingleton's 50 occupied 90 minutes. The Englishmen opened their second innings in cold weather. Woolley and Fagg batted as though they were only faintly interested and, after two stoppages owing to rain, the captains agreed at 3.20 p.m. to abandon the match. Details: — AUSTRALIA.
