OBITUARY

MR. ERKIOLD A. GRENSIDE

' The death is reported of Mr. Ernold Arthur Grenside, a very well-known Hawke's Bay resident and a prominent figure in sporting circles. The late Mr. Grenside, who was born at Waipawa 71 years ago, was : for many years the proprietor of-hotels in the Hawke's Bay district, and latterly was the licensee of the Stortford Bodge Hotel in Hastings. In his younger days he was one of the finest athletes in the district, and was the winner of the Tombana Cricket Club's trophy for the best all-rounder. In racing circles also he was held in high esteem, and owned some well remembered performers, including Mere Mere, Cousin Jack, Captain Jingle, and Blue Boy. He was a member of the Hawke's Bay and Waipukurau Jockey Clubs. -For many years he was a popular member of the St. Leonards Bowling Club. - ,

The late Mr. Grenside's three sons have inherited some of their "father's sporting instincts, Mr. Nuku Grenside having been a Hawke's Bay representative, Mr. Bert Grenside. a member of the All Blacks Rugby team, and Monty Grenside, his third son, having represented Hastings. In 'addition to his three sons, he leaves four daughters, Mesdames Copeland and Hooper, and Misses, Jessie and Madge Grenside, all of Auckland. His wife died/ some years ago. A brother, Mr.,M. G. Grenside, lives in Wellington.
