NEW HEALTH STAMP
DUE ON OCTOBER 1
TENTH OF THE SERIES
This year's health stamp, which is to be issued on October 1, has a design appropriate to the good cause for which it is issued, and probably most people, when they see the stamp, will be of the opinion that the design is an improvement on some of the previous health stamps. The stamp, to start with, is of a more convenient size than-some of the others. It is only slightly larger than the current penny stamp, and has for its leading feature two little children who are intensely interested in a toy. One child is sitting down on the. grass, its companion bending over it in a typical childlike attitude, watching what is being done to the toy. The background1 includes a boldly drawn New Zealand tree fern. Three Wellingtonians (Messrs. S. Hall, G. Bull, and J. Berry) co-operated in the preparation of the design, which has been reproduced with great fidelity by the
intaglio line-engraving process, the printers being the well-known English firm, Messrs. Bradbury, Wilkinson, and Company. The colour is a rich rose. ■ '
As in previous years, the postage value of the stamp will be only one penny, although it will cost twopence to buy. The other penny will be used ior the benefit of children in the various postal districts where the funds are raised, local committees co-oper-ating with the staff of the Post Office in promoting a sales campaign.
This will be the tenth health stamp issued by the Dominion, the first having appeared in 1929, one having been issued every year since. They have been instrumental in raising a considerable sum every year, and the idea is one which is now freely (used in many stamp-issuing countries.
