WOODERSON FAILS
1500 METRES RECORD

PARIS, September 5.
In the European amateur athletic championships, S. C. Wooderson (Britain) won the 1500 metres in 3min 53 3-ssec, which is some seconds slower than J. E. Lovelock's world record of 3min 47 4-ssec, which he is believed to have been attempting to beat. Germany was the most successful country at the meeting, winning seven first places. Finland won five and Britain four. Twenty-three nations competed in an Olympic programme. The results included:— 100 metres: M. Osendarp (Holland). Time, lOJsec. 200 metres: M. Osendarp (Holland). Time, 21 l-ssec. 400 metres: A. G. K. Brown (Britain). Time, 47 2-ssec. 800 metres: Hardig (Germany). Time, lmin 50 3-ssec. 5000 metres: Maeki (Finland). Time, 14min 26 4-ssec. 110 metres hurdles: D. O. Finlay (Britain). Time, 14 3-10 sec, a European record. Long jump: Leichum (Germany). Distance, 25ft lfin. Hammer-throw: K. Hem (Germany). Distance, 192 ft 9jfin, a world record.
