SHOPPING ACCIDENT
WOMAN'S CLAIM FOR '
DAMAGES
Alleging, that she had tripped when her heel caught in a depression in the floor of a cake shop in Courtenay Place on Christmas Eve, 1936, Mrs. Louise Buckingham, of Wellington, claimed £1000 general damages and £162 2s 6d special damages from Walter West, shopkeeper, in the Supreme Court today before Mr. Justice Reed. Mrs. Buckingham suffered a fractured left leg. Mr J D. Willis appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. W. P. Rollings, with him Mr. H. R. ,C. Wild, for the defendant. ■ , It was contended by the plaintiff that the defendant, occupier of the Dorothy Cake Shop, negligently permitted the flooring adjacent to the doorstep at the entrance of'the shop to become worn and dangerous, and gave no warning of its condition. Negligence was denied, and evidence given that there was nothing inside the shop on, which the plaintiff could have caught her heel.
The hearing of evidence is proceeding. ';
