HAS DONE WELL

K. C. JAMES IN CRICKET

News of the appointment of K. C. James to a coaching position under a Government scheme in South Africa will be of particular interest to followers of cricket in New Zealand. James appears to have done very well for himself since taking up cricket as a calling. From the time that he entered senior cricket in Wellington there was xio mistaking his ability as a wicket-keeper-batsman. It did not take him long to win Wellington representative honours, and he became a New Zealand representative before he was nineteen years of age. He represented his province and country many times bfore leaving to take up an appointment in England, where he has previously received high praise for his wicket-keeping. Both as a coach and as a player Ken James has done good service, and it can be taken that he will continue to carry on the good work. His South African appointment is probably one that will keep him occupied in that country during the off season in England. In this season's cricket in England i James has been keeping wicket splendidly, and he has also been making l some good scores. For his county (Northamptonshire) in a recent match with Sussex he batted very brightly. In the first innings he made 101 out of a total of 220, scoring freely all round the wicket. In the second innings he was unbeaten with 36 , (including five 4's) when the last wicket fell at 110.
