TAKANINI HORSES
PLANS FOR FLOOD TIDE
(Special to the "Evening Post,") / TAKANINL August 26. The forward, running of several of the Takanini entrants at the Pakuranga Meeting was decidedly encouraging, the efforts of Flood Tide and Paddy the Eip being well anticipated. The former won in brilliant style nad was at a remunerative price. His form at this stage is very interesting in view of the fact that he is engaged in the Melbourne and Caulfleld Cups this spring. Some time ago there was some controversy as to whether he would make the trip or not, and while there is still no confirmation as to his future movements, there has been no denial of the fact that he may make the trip. There is reason to expect him to cross the Tasman after his latest effort. j
Paddy the Rip was not disgraced in being beaten by a very promising three-year-old in Olympus in the Sylvia Park Handicap, and as a result of the outing is much improved. This gelding can be kept in mind for his next engagement, as he is on the upgrade with each outing. Actually he has raced on three occasions, the first time being left at the post and taking practically no part in the race, and bein gin the money in the other starts. By Whirlwind from Danae, he will see a short price the first time he sports silk in a maiden event. Inquisitor failed to show any dash in his engagement at Ellerslie and C. Morse intends to educate him as a jumper. He had already shown some aptitude on the hunting field, and I there seems a likelihood of his, developing-into a good class fencer in the spring, as he is not only the right type but possesses a fair amount of pace. D. J. Burgess leaves on Tuesday of next week with High Sea and Milanion who have engagements at the Tarariaki Meeting. Both horses have had the benefit of races at the Pakuranga Meeting, and are confidently expected to make their presence felt at this fixture. Both are to be ridden by the lightweight L. H. Clifford. TO RACE AT MARTON. Sir Robin, who was in training at | Takariini last season but is now under the guidance of A. McGregor at Rotorua, is stated to have furnished into an attractive colt, and it is the intention of his owner to send him. to the Marton Meeting. He is very fast, and should he be produced at his best for the maiden events at that fixture, he will be difficult to beat. Silver Jubilee, who also races in the same interests, is being trained by A. McGregor, and he too will make the trip south. Royevrus arid Pocket Venus are getting through a nice preparation and both are in fine order for the new season's campaign. Pocket Venus is a very keen worker and her trainer should have little difficulty in having her ready for the Avondale Meeting. Royevrus is one of the lazy type who rarely exerts himself on the track. He is, however, very well, and his next appearance will be watched with interest in view of his very encouraging form of last season. Gold Petal showed a bold front for five furlongs in the Sylvia Park Handicap at Ellerslie, and for a gelding with such little experience, the form was very encouraging. He is a five-year-old by Oration from Mystical Rose. ■
